This definitely is a BIG book of Alphabets and Borders and it also has the quality of BH&G behind it. Published in 1994, You name it, it's in there. Not all motifs are illustrated and photographed. Many are. Just not all. But the charting, in black and white, will get you through. These pieces must have been used at some time because each letter grouping and often the letters themselves come with a specific color codeing. There is everything from a perfume bottle alphabet to a lovely chemise with floral border and elegant lettering. Children's themes(for all ages,) are included. There are pictures of specific pieces using the different motifs periodically. Things are organized by theme in the Table of Contents. There is a brief introdction to the designers which is unusual and nice to know. No matter what your taste, this is something I think you'll be glad to have. Some of the alphabets are large, some small, all interesting, particularly for those working pieces with someone specific in mind or wanting a monogram in an unusual lettering for a pillow, sampler, linens or article of cothing. All ages and styles of writing are included. Did you ever know BH&G to leave something out? Didn't think so.

The book is full of possible crafts for me. A great book! Gail

Although this book is at present out of print a friend managed to pick it up in England having borrowed mine. This truly is a superb cross-stitch resource. The alphabets are divided into various sections such as floral, antique, elegant, baby, kids etc. As with all The Better and Homes And Gardens imprint this is downright lavish in its use of colour and the size of charts. The alphabets are shown finished in myriad ways. It is all here, boxes, cushions, throws, towel borders, afgans and of course alphabet samplers. It is yet another book to make me wish to live and stitch for a thousand years. If I could only ever take one cross-stitch book to a desert island this with be a real contender.

You'll have a wonderful time with this book! My daughters love the patterns and the wonderful towels that I make for them! A book to have in your cross stitch library!

For anybody who does cross stitch then this book is a must. There are lots of great ideas for children and adults alike and the gift possibilities are endless. Well presented and colourful it is a book that will be used again and again.

I just received this in the mail and can't wait to start stitching! The alphabets are so varied, including nursery rhymes, florals, nautical, native american and on and on, they are not just limited to childish themes like so many books have. I was blown away with the variety! The patterns are all full-color (who likes those little black-and-white patterns anyway?) and very large and easy to read. This book would be a fabulous addition to any stitcher's library!

There are no dups in this incredible volume and lots of alphabets and pictures for boys and girls for either sweaters, shirts or those little holiday cards. In fact I liked the book so much that I transferred one set of the alphabet into a needlepoint rug, all 26 letters, slowly to be sure, and then took other designs of letters for pillows and such for my son's room for him to learn his alphabet. I really loved this book and will probably use more of these alphabets to jot notes or one day emblazen my own initials on my bag in the corner. This book is worthwhile and gives your money worth of 50 themed colorful and well designed alphabets.

With the holiday season soon upon us, it’s time to think about some fun crafts you can do with your children in preparation of Christmas. My kids love doing holiday crafts, and I’m sure yours will too! It has always been challenging to find age-appropriate crafts that all of the children will enjoy making. My children each have a few years between them, so we have amassed quite a collection of crafts and craft ideas. Here are a few suggestions you can use. Consider it an early Christmas gift from me to you!

Bead garlands are one of my all-time favorite crafts. They are fun to make, extremely colorful, and great for children of all ages. You will need some string or plastic cord, a whole lot of beads, some scissors, and some glue. Cut the string or cord to the desired length, and thread it through the first bead. Tie a knot around that bead, and add some glue to keep it secure. Now add the rest of your beads. When you reach the end, tie the string off on the last bead and add some more glue. Now that was fun, wasn’t it?

Pine cone ornaments have also become classics in our Christmas craft repertoire. They are appropriate for children of any age, and keep very well in storage. You will need to spend some time collecting the pine cones. We collect them when we are out walking the dog. We simply paint them with silver or gold paint, and cover them with glitter. Let them dry somewhere safe, and tie them to your tree with a piece of ribbon. Are you getting in the holiday spirit, yet?

Bell ornaments are also a lot of fun to make, and they will last for years to come. We feel that small terra cotta pots are the best to use. Have the children paint the pot green, and allow it to dry. Once the pot is completely dry, attach fake jewels or beads to it with glitter glue. Then thread a small bell with some ribbon, and pull the ribbon up through the hole in the pot. Tie a knot in the ribbon so the bell stays secure, and add any other final touches you might like. I am sure your kids will love these crafts as much as mine do! Have a wonderful holiday, all!
