Dimensions Crafts Gold Collection Bookmarks Counted Cross Stitch Kit 9" Long Set Of Two 6783, 1 Item(s)/OrderReviewsThis is actually quite a beautiful bookmark/kit, but it's not so straight forward as you would think. All of the instructions come in the sample. The first thing that throws you off is that the thread is not coded in any obvious manner. Instead, you have to first separate out all of the colors and carefully make sure you put each clump of thread together with it's identical color clumps of thread. Provided you are not color blind, you should be able to figure this out after a little while. I suggest that you should not be a complete beginner because this particular pattern does include regular/half and French knots as well as Turkey work and Satin Stitches. There are also some fairly intense instructions on how to finish this bookmark off with respect to borders and sewing off the loose parts. I should be ok in theory, but I'd be lying if I was intimidated. I haven't quite finished the first bookmark yet, but will repost once I get it done. Overall, it appears to be beautiful and Aida is a smaller count, will actually take more time than you would think for such a little project. I'm an average speeds stitcher (I think??) and have been working on this one for over 10 hours and am not done. I suspect it will be around a 30 hour project (for the blue bookmark, possibly less for the other) provided I don't run into any problems. Average Rating:![]() |

Mucha Cross Stitch Vol. 1ReviewsBought this for my mother who is an avid, accomplished cross-stitcher. She loves Alphonse Mucha, so I knew this was the perfect gift for her. She doesn't have a computer so I spent over $40 to have a local print shop transfer all the data from the dvd (instructions, color codes, etc.) to printed form. Spent $13 to send it to her (it ended up being several hundred sheets, yes 100's). She rec'vd it...loved it, then hated it. The patterns were so hard to see w/o a magnifying glass, insidiously detailed, just plain overwhelming. She said there was NO WAY she would even attempt 1 of the patterns, as it would take her years to complete one... so many color changes, etc. This coming from a woman who cross-stitches EVERY day of her life, and has produced numerous projects and masterpieces. Again, the dvd is well worth the price, but unless you want to devote a portion of your life to one of these projects, you better think twice. As it turns out, I spent $80 for naught, and am totally deflated that my "big gift" turned out to be a goose egg. I can't say enough about how exciting it is to be able to reproduce some of my favorite works of art in cross-stitch. I have a close friend who is a major Mucha fan, and she will be overwhelmed by her gift. Average Rating:![]() |

The basic design element of any cross stitch project is the embroidery floss used to create the pattern itself. The DMC and Anchor cotton floss lines provide a beautiful palette of colors to work with, and most designers are, of course, going to use these. But, sometimes you want a little something special in your project, maybe an added touch or two to make your piece different from everyone else's. That's the great thing about cross stitch as a hobby, it's very adaptable and creative by nature. Yes, you have a pattern in front of you, and instructions, and we all begin with a pile of fabric and thread. However, there are so many ways that you can add a touch of your own pizazz to any project, even if it's from a prepackaged cross stitch kit. Let's go over a few quick ideas for fiber enhancements. • Use Kreinik pearl blending filament to go over an area of stitches that you want to stand out with a little extra shine. This is a great technique for accenting things like butterfly wings, it gives flower petals for a dewdrop look, and it can bring new depth to any cotton floss color. • Swap out a standard floss color for an over dyed floss instead. This gives you a range of depth and detail that helps your project stand out from the crowd. It's also a great technique for jazzing up single color projects like samplers and blackwork projects. • Swap out a solid color for a Kreinik Metallic, their #4 Very Fine Braid is the right size for this. Stitch with 1 strand of metallic braid instead of 2 strands of cotton floss. This is a fun way to add sparkle to your project and there are a lot of colors available. • Change the color scheme completely. This one requires a bit more work and creative thinking, but the results can be so worth it. Change a red dragon into a blue dragon, or transform purple flowers into orange ones, use your imagination. Just make sure you use the same tones in a different color and you'll be fine. • Make it glow in the dark! This is a fairly new option that's available by using the Glow in the Dark thread line from Kreinik threads. There are a few different colors, and of course they all glow in the dark. You can add these blending filaments to just about any project, but they are particularly fun for Halloween cross stitch projects. I've also had some luck adding them to Christmas ornament projects, they stand out on the tree at night even when it's not lit up. I hope you have some ideas flowing for your next cross stitch project now. Your only limit on what you can do is your imagination. Enjoy your hobby and have fun with it. Just a simple color swap can take a project from nice to amazing. Keeping a variety of extra [http://www.stitchingthenightaway.com/cross_stitch_supplies/]cross stitch supplies on hand, also known in the stitching world as your "stash," is a great idea for any stitcher. With these extras on hand you'll always be ready for that creative spark when the mood strikes to start something new or to make changes to enhance an existing work in progress. One of the key things for any stitcher to keep in their stash pile is a selection of [http://www.stitchingthenightaway.com/cross_stitch_supplies/embroidery_floss.htm]embroidery floss and cross stitch fibers. Without these elements your fabric will remain a blank canvas, a masterpiece in waiting.
